  • Overview

    Demonstrated ability to perform passivation activities: Set-up, operate and conduct passivation, descaling and/or cleaning functions on metal parts. Perform abrasive cleaning and part marking, handling and packaging. Maintain safe operation of the passivation/metal finishing facilities. Ensure that passivation operations are compliant with company policies. Assist the Area Supervisor in the planning, organization, and implementation of all activities needed to support metal finishing, cleaning, and for mechanical production. Read and understand written instructions, sketches, schematics, diagrams, drawings and charts. Cleaning activities: Perform all loading and unloading of tumbling barrels and perform all cleaning operations with a goal of total quality in each operation and task. Shipping and receiving activities: Perform all shipping and receiving operations as required.

    Responsibilities

    • Demonstrated ability to passivate parts as required while following company, environmental and safety requirements.
    • Check system prior to passivating. This includes heated tanks, pH, and density levels.
    • Load parts in baskets and move through passivation tanks per company guidelines, and per passivation Work Instruction.
    • Dry parts with clean compressed air, or other mechanical equipment.
    • Examine/visually inspect cleaned parts to ensure conformance to standards.
    • Perform Copper Sulfate test after passivation.
    • Routine maintenance including emptying, cleaning, and refilling tanks as necessary per company passivation Work Instruction.
    • Demonstrated ability to operate Passivation Waste Treatment system, as directed.
    • Operate equipment such as a tumbler and washer and dryer. Use hand tools such as deburring knives, chamfer tools, sheet sandpaper and files to finish parts.
    • Help maintain a production flow schedule for the timely completion of each project.
    • Cleaning: Load, unload and attend tumbling and associated equipment.

    Follow established procedures on:
    o Ratio of parts, water, cleaning and tumbling compounds.
    o Use of time, temperature, speed and controls.
    o Visually sample inspect for color, finish, damage, or mixed parts.
    o Dimensionally check specific parts as directed.
    o Packaging requirements.
    o Moving and storing in-process and finished parts.
    o Packages and labels parts. Counts and confirms correct quantity against documentation. Places completed product in appropriate area.
    o Transfers materials, supplies and product between work areas.

    • Keep leader informed on levels of required supplies.
    • With assistance of leader, interpret and interpolate cleaning and tumbling procedures for nonstandard parts or quantities.
    • Record data on all new procedures performed for new parts.

    Perform shipping and receiving functions, including, but not limited to:

    o Lifts, loads, sorts, and moves materials, supplies and finished products between storage or trucks and work
    areas using push cart, forklift truck, or hand truck as required.
    o Weighs, documents, and transfers material scrap from production areas through to scrap truck.
    o Operates computers, labeling machines, stretch wrap machines, and parts counting/weighing scales.
    o Packages and labels parts. Counts and confirm correct quantity against documentation. Places completed
    product in appropriate areas.
    o Prepares product for shipment.

    • Keep other records as directed.
    • Help train new employees.
    • Adhere to all plant safety regulations.
    • Drain, clean, and recharge tanks to proper material concentration.
    • Be knowledgeable of Quality Procedures and Work Instructions that apply to tasks being performed.
    • Other duties as may be assigned.

     

    Qualifications

    • Ability to read and interpret packing documents, cleaning procedures and work instructions.
    • Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
    • Strong ability to multi-task, prioritize and adapt to shifting priorities.
    • Exceptional problem solving and decision making skills and the ability to think independently.
    • Must pay attention to detail.
    • Demonstrate an understanding of hazardous chemicals.
    • Ability to read blueprints is a plus.
    • Must be able to work in other areas on an as needed basis.

    Education and/or Experience

    • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
    • 2-5 years experience; preferably in a manufacturing environment
